Why I’ll Always Be a 5am Gym Girl (Even with Two Kids!)

Let’s be real: life is full on. Between motherhood, work, running a household, and trying to stay somewhat sane in the chaos, finding time for yourself often feels impossible.

But there’s one thing that’s stayed constant for me over the years—something that’s grounded me through every life chapter, from pre-kids to now wrangling two of them.

I’m a 5am girl. Always have been. Always will be.And here’s why…

The Gym is My Hour Before the World (kids) Wake Up

When my alarm goes off at 4:45am, it’s not because I’m superhuman or love sleep deprivation (I really don’t!). It’s because that early hour is sacred. It’s quiet. It’s mine. There are no nappies to change, no breakfasts to make, no emails dinging.

Just me, moving my body, filling my cup.

No Room for Excuses

Let’s be honest—once the day kicks in, all bets are off. A sick kid, a last-minute appointment, a meltdown over the wrong coloured bowl… you name it. That peaceful window at 5am is the only time I can guarantee it’s going to happen. It takes willpower, sure—but it removes the decision fatigue later. It’s done. No excuses.

It Sets the Tone for My Whole Day

There’s something magical about starting your day in motion. It lifts my mood, boosts my energy, and gives me that “I’ve got this” feeling, no matter what chaos lies ahead. It’s like ticking the first box before anyone else even opens their eyes. And when you’re a mum, that sense of accomplishment matters.

I Don’t Always Want to Rely on Creche

I love that our gym offers a creche, but I also don’t want to feel like I can only train if everything lines up perfectly with my kids’ routines. Early mornings give me that independence and consistency. I get to show up for myself without needing to juggle everyone else first.

Now, I completely understand that this rhythm doesn’t work for everyone. If you’re solo parenting—whether all the time or part of the time—mornings like this might feel completely unrealistic, and that’s more than okay. You’re in the thick of it, doing an incredible job, and your time will come too.

This isn’t about the when you train—it’s about why you do. For me, 5am works. For you, it might be 10am, 7pm, or whenever life allows. What matters most is finding your moment and owning it unapologetically.

So if you’ve been thinking about carving out time for yourself, I can’t recommend it enough—whenever and however that looks for you.

See you at sunrise? ☀️Natalia x
