Why We Don’t Offer Free Trials at First Base

Two women in a gym, smiling and chatting. Both wear athletic gear. Equipment and fluorescent lights are visible in the background.

It’s a question we occasionally get asked:

“Do you offer a free trial?”

And while many gyms do, at First Base we’ve made a very intentional decision not to offer free trials. Not because we want to make things difficult — but because we want to create the best possible experience for the women who train with us.

Here’s why.

We Focus on Commitment, Not Drop-Ins & Free Trials

First Base was built around something bigger than just workouts. We’re here to help women build strong, consistent training habits that last well beyond a single session.

Free trials tend to attract people who are just browsing or hopping between gyms. That’s completely fine — but it doesn’t align with what we do best.

Our members tend to be women who are ready to:

  • show up consistently

  • follow a structured program

  • build strength over time

  • be part of a supportive community

When someone joins First Base, they’re stepping into a program designed for progress, not just a one-off workout.

We Prioritise Our Members’ Experience

Our classes are designed so that members have space, equipment, and coaching support every session.

If we filled classes with people trialling the gym for free, it would make sessions more crowded and take attention away from the members who are already committed to their training.

Instead, we focus on creating an environment where the women who train with us feel:

  • supported

  • seen by their coaches

  • confident using the equipment

  • part of the community

That experience is one of the things members consistently tell us they love most about First Base.

Real Results Come From Consistency

One workout can feel great. But the real magic happens when you train consistently over weeks and months.

That’s why we encourage women to start with a 4-week introductory membership rather than a free class. It allows you to:

  • settle into the program

  • learn the movements properly

  • build strength week by week

  • see real changes in your fitness and confidence

A single free workout simply doesn’t show you what First Base is truly about.

We’re Built for Women, at Every Stage

Another reason we don’t run drop-in trials is because many of our members are training through different life stages — pregnancy, postpartum, returning to exercise, or balancing busy schedules with kids.

Our coaches take the time to understand each member so we can support them safely and effectively.

That level of care works best when someone joins the program properly rather than just dropping into a class.

If You’re Thinking About Joining

If you’re curious about First Base, we’d love to help you get started.

Our team can walk you through:

  • the different membership options

  • which classes will suit you best

  • how to ease into training if you’re returning after time off

Most women tell us they wish they had joined sooner.

Because once you experience what it feels like to train in a supportive, women-only environment, exercise starts to feel very different.

And that’s exactly what First Base was built for. 💛
